The Chairman of the Polity Committee, Phil Sasser, wrote the following letter to update us on the polity discussions and the work that will continue later this month.
Dear friends,
This last week, the Polity Committee met in Louisville, KY to hear presentations by several SGM pastors on the subject of biblical ecclesiology. Eight different pastors or pastoral teams presented. And while there was a wide variation of polity positions advocated for, we believe the meetings were characterized by godliness and brotherly love. On behalf of the Polity Committee, I want to thank those who presented for their hard work of preparation and for their godly demeanor in presentation. Thanks also to those SGM pastors who attended only to hear the presentations. Their sacrifice of time and resources is indicative of their love for the local church, love of their fellow pastors in Sovereign Grace, and their love and commitment to sound doctrine. It is a privilege to be associated with such leaders.
The Polity Committee will meet again in 11 days in Louisville. Because we only have three more elderships to hear from, the presentations will begin at 10 AM and end at 5 PM on July 24. At the conclusion of these presentations the Committee will work to make a polity recommendation for the SGM Board.
Thank you for partnering with us in prayer this past week. We were so grateful to hear from many of you that you were praying. We most certainly felt God’s grace in the process. Would you please continue to intercede for us in the days ahead? We are confident that God’s wise plan will prevail. We are asking God for much wisdom. Your partnership here is most meaningful.
On behalf of the Polity Committee,
Phil Sasser
